The Boro of Rutherford revitalized the pedestrian tunnel on Park Avenue (that connects Park Ave to the Kip Parking Garage) and the art department is excited to showcase student artwork in their new displays. Art students in Grades 1-12 are represented and we are thrilled that the public will be able to see the wonderful work our kids do under the direction of our district art teachers. We are thankful for our art teachers Laura Clossey, Stephanie Natiello, Alexis Klubeck, Stephanie Castellano, Veronica Grillo, and Steve Mett for continually challenging our students to create beautiful and meaningful works! 2022-2023 Bulldog Registration

Rutherford Public School PreSchool Registration

The Rutherford Preschool Program is designed to offer Rutherford residents access to a half-day program for preschool children ages 3 and 4. The 3-year-old program meets daily from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and the 4-year-old program meets daily from 12:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at both Lincoln and Washington Schools with an annual tuition of $3,000.00.

Registration for preschool opens on January 24, 2022. Parents of preschoolers must complete the online registration. Once completed, please follow up directly with the Rutherford Board of Education Office at (201) 438-7675 ext. 1112 or email registration@rutherfordschools.org to complete the registration process.

All other registration including Kindergarten and Grade 1 begins on February 1.

Summer Enrichment Academy 2021

Registration is now open for the 2021 Summer Enrichment Academy. The program is open to students registered in the Rutherford Public Schools who will be entering Kindergarten through third grade in September 2021. Space is limited and on a first come, first served basis. Information about the program and registration forms can be found on the attached brochure. Trimester 1 Report Cards Grades K-3

Trimester 1 report cards are now available in the PowerSchool Parent Portal. Please log in to the PowerSchool Parent Portal (powerschool.rutherfordschools.org/public) to access your child’s report card.

Please note:

In response to current circumstances, our method for reporting student achievement has been altered in some areas for the first trimester in grades K-3.

The efficient use of a standards-based report card requires the accurate collection of data derived from daily observation and personal interaction with our students. Without consistency in these areas, it can be difficult to attest to individual mastery of specific standards with validity and fidelity.

The NA (Not-Applicable) grade is used traditionally during the 1st trimester for subject area components that are covered later in the school year.

This trimester, the NA will also be used in several Academic areas and for some Behaviors that Support Learning where it is difficult to provide an accurate reflection of student progress under current conditions – i.e. Reads at Grade Level. This may vary slightly between our in-person and our fully-remote learners.

Summer Programs

Due to the current health emergency regulations, summer enrichment programs have been cancelled for this year. The Summer Enrichment Academy (formerly known as Jumpstart ), the Summer STEM Experience, and the Summer Music Program will not be held. Information regarding a refund for anyone who registered for a program will be sent to those parents. Extended School Year information has been sent to parents from the Department of Special Services.

Online Read Alouds Continue With New Books!

Welcome back from Spring Break!

Mr. Ersalesi, the supervisor of English and Arts for the Rutherford Public Schools, will continue to read aloud to students each day during our virtual instruction.

For younger students, Mr. Ersalesi will continue to read one picture book per day. They will be added to this YouTube Playlist daily.

For older students, Mr. Ersalesi will be reading several chapters from a novel each day.

Our current book is Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Chapters will be added to this YouTube Playlist daily.

Our previous book was Chris Grabenstein’s Welcome to Wonderland: Home Sweet Motel. That YouTube Playlist can be found at this link.

Registration for Summer Enrichment Academy

Save the Dates! Registration for Summer Enrichment Academy (SEA) will be opening March 2, 2020. The Summer Enrichment Academy (formerly known as Jumpstart for incoming K/1 students) is for incoming students in grades K-3. SEA will be based on hands-on learning experiences centered around a weekly theme. Due to construction, the program will be held at Washington School. This year the program will run Monday – Friday from July 6th to July 31st, 8:30am – 12:30pm. Busing to the Recreation Program will be available for those interested in a full-day program. Before Care will be offered for an additional fee. Space is limited and is on a first come, first served basis. A detailed brochure will be sent home via students’ backpacks at the end of February.
