Summer break is always an exciting time of growth and development through for elementary aged children through their innate curiosities. As parents/guardians, embrace the different experiences to further develop your child’s growth socially, emotionally. and academically.
Go for a walk through in our community!
Observe the changes in environment before and after a summer storm.
Attend a concert in the park.
Make a new friend.
Try a new game.
Visit a museum.
Did you know that the Rutherford Public Library has free passes to visit various museums and they provide a full calendar of events, summer reading contests, and of course a welcoming environment to cool off and read a book during the hot summer days.
Optional summer assignments are also available on our district website to explore at your leisure!
Have a safe, healthy summer and be on the lookout for information from your teacher in late August!

Kindergarten Registration is Coming!

Will your child be 5 on or before October 1, 2024?

If so, this message is for you. The 2 part registration process will not be open until January 23, 2024, however, information on registration is available by visiting the frequently asked questions page prior to this date.

It is strongly encouraged to complete the registration process in the next few months and no later than the end of THIS school year. Though registration will remain open throughout the summer, an accurate representation of incoming students will allow our district time to adequately plan for the 2024-2025 school year.

If your child is currently enrolled in our preschool program, registration is not required, however, any updated medical information can be shared directly with your school nurse prior to the end of the school year.

Virtual Parent Presentation for Prekindergarten-Kindergarten Parents

Guardians and caretakers of incoming kindergarten, current kindergarten, and preschool aged children are encouraged to attend the virtual presentation, A Practical Guide to Parenting PreKindergarten and Kindergarten Aged Children, on June 2 at 9:00. The presentation will be hosted by Megan Caughey, Supervisor of Elementary Education, to provide information from various experts in the district on how to promote a healthy lifestyle through productive engagement, effective communication, development and establishing healthy habits and routines. To receive a link to the presentation, please complete the short form and an email will be sent to you prior to the start of the event. We hope to see you there!

Building Resilience and Independence in K-3 Children

Approximately 40 parents enjoyed a workshop entitled, “Building Resilience and Independence in K-3 Children”. The session was part of the Second Cup of Coffee series at Washington School and the Rutherford School District’s Parent Academy. The presenters were Ms. Emily Bregman, Student Assistance Counselor, and Mr. Bill Mulcahy, Principal at Washington School. The second part of this presentation will be presented in March. Details to follow.
